Held just two weeks after the Vienna City Marathon, the Frühlingsmarathon (Spring Marathon) offers another fine opportunity to run a marathon in Austria's capital.

Organized by the LCC Wien athletics club, the event also features a 7k race, a half marathon, a half marathon relay for teams of three runners, and a marathon relay for teams of six.

Like the Herbstmarathon in the autumn, the Frühlingsmarathon takes place entirely in the Prater, a vast wooded park which is home to various sports venues, as well as to the "Wurstelprater" amusement park (pictured).

The route is a 7,032.5metre-long loop. Participants in the half marathon run three laps of this course. The marathon is six laps.

As the course is completely flat, traffic-free and AIMS-certified the event offers a fair chance of setting a personal marathon record.

The course won't be crowded either. Last year, the event had 259 finishers overall. Only 24 runners completed the full marathon. Michael Schalk (3 hours 3 minutes 39 seconds) and Susanne Schöberl (3 hours 51 minutes 1 second) were the fastest finishers. The time limit to finish the race is six hours.
