Organized by the athletics club LCC Wien, the Wiener Herbstmarathon ('Vienna Autumn Marathon') offers five races:
- 7km (one lap)
- half marathon (three laps)
- marathon (six laps)
- half marathon relay (3x7km)
- marathon relay (6x7km)
Starting and finishing on the athletics track of the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Austria's biggest stadium, the route is a 7032.5m-long loop through the Prater, Vienna's largest public park. The course is pancake-flat and traffic-free.
Approximately 4.5km of each lap are run on the Hauptallee, a beautiful avenue that is lined with chestnut trees (pictured).
The time limit to finish the race is six hours.
Almost 1,000 runners took part in the event last year.
