This scenic half marathon attracts over 1,000 runners to the Mondsee lake in the Salzkammergut region, which is situated on the northern edge of the Alps in Austria.

The race begins and ends in the very pretty town of Mondsee at the lake's northern end. Participants run 21.1km of an undulating course along the shore and through rural areas, mostly on asphalt roads.

It is also possible to form a team of two runners and run the half marathon as a relay (10km + 11.1km).

The time limit to complete the course is three hours.

In 2013, the Mondsee Halbmarathon had to be cancelled as large areas of Central Europe (and parts of the Mondsee Halbmarathon course) were flooded.
