Vienna (Austria), Saturday 5 October 2013
Held every year since 1949, the Höhenstrassenlauf in Austria's capital Vienna is a road running race with a long tradition.
Competitors run 14.3km of a challenging and scenic point-to-point course along Vienna's longest road — the Höhenstrasse — a historic panoramic road built on the slopes of the Wienerwald hills on the north-western edge of the city.
Made of granite paving stones, the Höhenstrasse was completed in 1938. It features hairpin turns like an alpine road.
The race begins on the Leopoldsberg hill on the right bank of the River Danube, and ends on the athletics track of the Marswiese sports centre.
