This popular half marathon race in Austria is held at the north-western end of the Mondsee, one of the seventy-six lakes in the Salzkammergut region on the northern edge of the Alps, near the city of Salzburg.
Starting and finishing in the very pretty town centre of the resort of Mondsee, situated at the lake's northern tip, participants run 21.1km of an undulating and scenic course along the shore and through rural areas, mostly on asphalt roads.
Last year, an international field of over 900 half marathon runners and around 100 relay teams (two runners per team) took part in the Mondsee Halbmarathon.
The fastest finishers were Elisha Kiprotich Sawe of Kenya (1:03:58) and Zita Kacser of Hungary (1:28:27). The time limit to complete the course is three hours.
