63rd International Vienna Höhenstrasse Run 2011

The Wiener Höhenstrassenlauf is a scenic 14.3-kilometre point-to-point road race with a long tradition. Established in 1949, the event has been held annually since then.

Competitors run along Vienna's longest road, the Höhenstrasse, a historic panoramic road through the hills of the Wienerwald ("Vienna Woods") on the north-western edge of Austria's capital city.

The Höhenstrasse, which is built of granite paving stones, was completed in 1938. The road runs through forests, meadows and vineyards. It features hairpin turns like an alpine road.

Start of the race is on Leopoldsberg, a steep hill on the right bank of the River Danube. The finish line is on the athletics track in the "Marswiese" sports centre.

The route is undulating and overall downhill, with a drop of about 150 metres from start to finish.

In 2010, the top finishers came from Kenya. Joel-Maina Mwangi celebrated victory in a time of 43:12, Kellen Mukami Waithira led the women home in 50:02.
