Bagnoli della Rosandra (Trieste, Italy), Saturday 19 May 2012
Trail Jamarun — a trail running race in the north-eastern corner of Italy, held on a very challenging and immensely scenic 13-kilometre course
The start was in the village of Bagnoli della Rosandra, situated on the edge of the port of Trieste.
At the front of the field, the pace was very high.
Marco Moretton from Trieste took the lead soon after the start.
Silvia Serafini, the fastest woman, showed her rivals a clean pair of heels.
Competitors ran through the spectacular Val Rosandra ...
... with its impressive waterfall ...
... and dense forests.
Then came a long steep climb ...
... to the Karst Plateau.
Ciao!
What a beautiful course!
Participants ran half-way down into the valley ...
... and up again.
From the course, there were stunning views of the Bay of Trieste ...
... and of the gas storage tanks near the port.
The downhill run to the finish was through lovely woods.
The best finishers were awarded fine Italian delicacies.
