5th Kanizsa Running Festival

The Running Festival in Nagykanizsa in south-western Hungary offers the rare opportunity to run a 50-kilometre race on a certified course.

The event also includes a half marathon, a 10km race, and a 3-person relay (2km each).

All races are out-and-back on a mildly undulating country lane through fields, woods and villages.

The start and the finish are in Kiskanizsa ("Little Kanizsa"), a village 3 kilometres to the west of the town of Nagykanizsa ("Great Kanizsa"), which is often just called "Kanizsa".

Participants in the 50k race run two times out-and-back to the village of Murakeresztúr, located on the River Mura and the border with Croatia.

Along the route, there are plenty of well-stocked feed stations.

The course is not closed to traffic.

In 2009, the 50k winners were István Pleiveisz (3:21:40) and Ildikó Wermescher (4:04:35).

Csaba Rosta (1:22:10) and Orsika Német (1:44:25) celebrated victory in the half marathon.
