16th Mürz Half Marathon 2010
The Mürzer Halbmarathon is a small event that takes place in September in the old steel-working town of Mürzzuschlag, located half-way between Austria's two largest cities Vienna and Graz.
In 2009, the race saw just 140 finishers, which is very little compared to over 600 participants six years earlier.
Entrants choose between the following distances:
5.27km (one lap), 10.55km (two laps) or 21.1km (four laps).
All races start at 3pm on Mürzzuschlag's main square. The route is mildly undulating.
Participants run on footpaths and forest trails along the River Mürz out of town. They cross the river and run through a quiet residential area back to the town centre.
Last year, Slovenia's 49-year-old outstanding masters athlete Ida Šurbek delivered the best performance, winning the half marathon in a time of 1:25:34. Peter Bärntaler (44) was the first male finisher in 1:20:36.
