The Landhauslauf in the town of Eisenstadt, located approximately 50 kilometres to the south of Vienna, offers three distances: 2.5k, 5k and 10k.
All races follow a 2.5-kilometre lap course, starting and finishing at the pretty Rathaus (town hall). Participants run along Hauptstrasse (the pedestrianized main street), and then a loop through the eastern part of Eisenstadt. Back in the town centre, runners pass Schloss Esterházy, a massive palace with a large landscaped park.
Although Eisenstadt is the capital of the Burgenland, Austria's easternmost province, it's a small town with a population of less than 13,000, situated in a low-lying region, close to the Hungarian border and to the vast Lake Neusiedl.
