Runners pass the Austrian Parliament Building on Ringstrasse.

Last year, over 10,000 runners and nordic walkers completed the 5k race along Vienna's imperial Ringstrasse, which forms a horseshoe around the city centre of Austria's capital.

The start/finish area is at the Rathauspark in front of Vienna's magnificent neo-gothic town hall.

The mildly undulating route runs past many key landmarks and grandiose buildings, including the Hofburg (Court Palace), the Parliament buildings, churches, museums, theatres, the State Opera House, and the University.

As ever so often in Austria, the entry fees are relatively high, but 5 Euros of each entry fee go to the charity "Light for the World", and all participants get a long-sleeved technical T-shirt.

In 2009, the winners were Michael Schmid (14:36) and Esther Erb (17:29).
