Danube Canal Run 2010 - 25th Landstrasse District Race
Vienna (AUT), Sunday 2 May 2010
Start and finish is behind the Urania.
This event in Austria's capital, held in the beginning of May, includes a 9.5k race (two laps), a 4.75k "Hobby Run" (one lap), and two children's races.
The route runs along both banks of the Donaukanal ("Danube Canal"), an arm of the River Danube that flows along the edge of Vienna's inner city. In the Middle Ages this was the main branch of the Danube.
The start/finish area is at the trendy beach bar Strandbar Hermann, which is located at the confluence of the Donaukanal and the Wienfluss ("Vienna River"). The Art-Nouveau Urania, which houses the observatory, is just across the river.
The course along traffic-free cycle paths is flat and fast. Short sections are on hard-packed sand.
In 2009, the winners were Christian Schöggl (32:01) and Christa Wallner (41:06).
