Vipava Valley

You won't forget the name any more. It's all called Vipava — the town, the river and the valley, located on the Karst limestone plateau in south-western Slovenia, not far from the Adriatic Sea.

The 9.5km Vipavski tek starts and finishes on the football pitch of Vipava, a lovely little town with a picturesque ruined 12th-century castle towering above it.

Participants run two different loops along dirt roads through the fruit- and wine-growing Vipava Valley, which is widely known for its delicate red wines, apricots, peaches and cherries.

In 2009, the winners were Tine Torkar (31:14) and Aleksandra Fortin (36:25).
