7th "Ulten Farm Run" 2012

The Ultner Höfelauf is staged in the Ultental (Italian: Val d'Ultimo), a lovely green alpine valley in Italy's northernmost province of South Tyrol.

The narrow 40km-long valley leads from Lana (near the spa town of Merano), to the foot of the impressive Ortler Alps.

Ninety-eight per cent of the valley's population speak German as a first language.

The event offers two hilly multi-terrain races (8.4km and 17.9km).

Start and finish are in the village of Kuppelwies (Italian: Pracupola), situated at an elevation of 1145 metres on the edge of a reservoir with a huge dam.

Both races are scenic loop courses through pastures, woods and villages. The first half of the course is mostly uphill, the second half downhill.

Along the route, runners pass many beautiful traditional farm buildings.

In 2009, the winners of the 17.9k run were Rudi Brunner (1:08:27) and Edltraud Thaler (1:30:20).
