South Tyrol, Italy's largely German speaking province in the Alps, is home to several very attractive running events. This is the most popular half marathon in the region.

The start and finish are in the beautiful spa town of Meran (Italian: Merano) which is known for its mild climate and lush Mediterranean vegetation.

The route consists of three undulating laps. The difference between the highest and the lowest point on the course is about 50 metres of elevation.

The race begins with a short lap through Meran (about 4km). Participants then run two laps between Meran and the village of Algund (Lagundo), partly through blossoming apple orchards.

In 2009, more than 1300 runners took part in the half marathon. Kenya's 17-year-old talent Collins Tanui won the race in a tight finish in 1:01:28. Helah Kiprop (24), also of Kenya, celebrated victory in the women's race in 1:12:42, just one week after her outstanding 1:09:29 performance in Nice.
