From the Alps to the Adriatic

This 68km ultra marathon in the far north-east of Italy takes you from Buja, a village at an elevation of about 200 metres at the foot of the Carnic Alps, across the Friulian plain to the old fishing village of Marano Lagunare on the Adriatic Sea.

A large part of the course is on dirt trails through woods and fields along the River Cormor which winds its way down towards the city of Udine. It flows through the western outskirts of the city before it becomes the Cormor Canal that ends in the nature reserve of Laguna di Marano.

A 36km non-competitive run starts in Zugliano, 5km south of Udine's city centre, and follows the second part of the course.

There are 10 feed stations along the 68km route (5 feed stations for 36km runners) and another one at the finish.

The time limit for the ultra marathon is 9 hours (4 hours at the intermediate 32km point in Zugliano) and 7 hours for the 36km run.

The 68km runners may have to produce a valid medical certificate at registration.

In 2008, the winners were Gerardo Villani (5:16:17) and Daniela Volturno (7:23:40).
