20th Kahlenberg Race 2009

This hill running event in Austria's capital Vienna is held on the second Sunday in October.

The race features a moderate elevation gain of about 400 metres over an 8.6 kilometre route.

The start is in Kahlenbergerdorf, a village located eight kilometres north of the city centre but still within the city limits. It's located on the right bank of the River Danube and surrounded by woods and vineyards.

Participants run up the wooded hills of the Wienerwald to the finish at the transmission tower on the Kahlenberg (484m). The hill is a popular destination for day trippers from Vienna as it offers fine views of the Danube and the city centre in the distance.

The route includes a mild 2.8km-long downhill section.

In 2008, the winners were Alfred Sungi (35:57) and Manuela Hofbauer (45:52).
