2nd 'Bistrica Race '

This 10k race, held at the end of June, takes you into the densely forested hills of the Notranjska region in south-western Slovenia.

The start is at 5 p.m. at the small restaurant Črne Njive at an elevation of 620 metres, located in the hills above the small town of Ilirska Bistrica. Participants run a 10km-lap on dirt roads, mainly through pine forests, and partly through beautiful open grassland. The first four kilometres are mostly uphill (+150m), the second half of the race downhill.

The course records are held by Lorena Giurissa from Italy (44:00) and Uroš Vodopivec (35:35).

Ilirska Bistrica is on the road and the train line from the gigantic Postojna Caves to the Croatian port of Rijeka. It's also a good starting point for trips to the wonderful karst plateau of Snežnik and its highest peak, Veliki Snežnik (1796m).
