4th Race of the town of Mursko Središće
The River Mura near Mursko Središće
You can't go any further north in Croatia.
From the small town of Mursko Središće it's just a short walk across the River Mura to Slovenia. The Hungarian border is 10km away. And even Austria is so close that many Croats commute the 50km to work in Bad Radkersburg.
The area is great running and cycling country with low-lying fields to the east, hills and vineyards to the west, and footpaths on the green dikes along the protected landscape of the Mura. And within a radius of 20km you'll find three thermal spas in three different countries - wonderful!
The 10.3km race follows a flat out-and-back course along the country road to the east of Mursko Središće. Start and finish are at the football pitch near the river. The "Citizen's Run" of 2.6km is held in the town.
It's a small and friendly event with very low entry fees, lots of prizes and a warm meal for all runners after the race.
In 2008, the winners of the main race were Ivan Čorba (34:56) and Martina Bezek (46:05).
