The Celjski polmaraton državnosti is a running event in Celje, the fourth-largest city in Slovenia.

Celje is home to about 37,000 people and features an appealing Old Town overlooked by the largest castle in the country. The city is easy to reach by train from Ljubljana and from Maribor.

Entrants can choose between these races:

  • 200m - 1km otroški tek (kids run)
  • 6km rekreacijski tek (‘recreational run’)
  • 10.5km tek za štajersko-koroški pokal (‘Styrian-Carinthian Cup Run’)
  • 21km polmaraton (half marathon)

Starting and finishing in Mestni Park (‘Town Park’) on the right bank of the Savinja river, the half marathon is two laps of the 10.5km course.

The route takes the runners along both banks of the Savinja, through woods and through agricultural land, partly on gravel roads.

For the most part, the course is flat. It includes, however, a hill with approximately 50 metres of ascent.

The event is held on dan državnosti (Statehood Day) which is celebrated annually on 25 June to commemorate Slovenia's declaration of independence from Yugoslavia on 25 June 1991.
