The Tatry Running Tour (TRT) is a three-day trail running event held annually since 2011 in Slovakia.
It's a very popular event that attracts runners from around the world, and you can expect entries to close well ahead of time.
Staged in Štrbské Pleso, Slovakia's highest resort, situated at 1,325 metres above sea level, the TRT consists of three races through the amazingly-beautiful scenery of the High Tatras (Slovak: Vysoké Tatry), an imposing mountain range on the Slovakia-Poland border.
Entrants can choose between two versions, Classic and Extreme:
Stage | Day | Classic | Extreme |
1 | Friday | 4.5km Night Run | |
2 | Saturday | 12km Cross Run | 34km Sky&Clouds Run |
3 | Sunday | 8km Interski Run |
It is possible to take part only in Stage 1 or Stage 2. The third stage is reserved for participants in the whole tour.
Stage 1 is a mainly-flat summer night run around the glacial Štrbské pleso lake (pictured below).
Stage 2 and Stage 3, however, are very challenging trail races which take the runners up and down the slopes of the Tatras.
The Sky&Clouds Run features about 2,400m of ascent and 2,400m of descent. The highest point on the course is at an elevation of 2,030m.
As the event takes place within the boundaries of the Tatra National Park, entries are limited to 200 runners for the TRT Classic and 100 runners for the Sky&Clouds Run and for the TRT Extreme.
