Hungary's best-known running event, the Budapest Marathon, is held each year over a weekend in the autumn.
The event begins on Saturday with the 10k, the 5k and several shorter races for runners of all ages and abilities.
The 42.2k marathon, the 42.2k relay race, the 30k, the half marathon and the 14k take place on Sunday.
The marathon route is a scenic and mostly flat loop, mainly along the Danube, starting and ending at the Lágymányosi Campus of the Eötvös Lóránd University (ELTE) which is situated on the right bank of the river, south of the city centre:
