This Halbmarathon (half marathon) is held each year in the spring in Ingolstadt, an old city of about 140,000 people, situated eighty kilometres north of München (Munich), capital of Germany's state of Bayern (Bavaria).
In addition to the half marathon, the event offers relay races, children's races and a non-competitive 5k FitnessRun&Fun which is open to runners, walkers and nordic walkers.
Starting at 5pm on Konrad-Adenauer-Brücke in the city centre and ending on Theaterplatz (ca. 300 metres from the start), the half marathon route is flat and scenic as it takes the runners through the well-preserved Altstadt (Old Town), along and across the Donau (Danube) and through a number of parks and green areas.
The course is run on a mixture of asphalt roads (70 per cent) and gravel footpaths.
