The Sonnwendlauf (‘Solstice Run’) is held annually on a Saturday evening in June in Feldbach, a small town located in a rural and hilly region in the Steiermark (Styria) province in south-eastern Austria, approximately 25 kilometres from the borders with Slovenia and Hungary.
The event offers five races:
- 380m kids run (one lap)
- 1.14km kids run (three laps)
- 5km nordic walking (two laps)
- 5km run (two laps)
- 10km run (four laps)
- 10km relay (4 x 2.5km)
Participants in the 10k race run four laps of a flat loop course through the town centre.
The route visits the cheerful architectural jumble pictured above (the neo-Gothic Villa Hold, the neo-Renaissance Parish Church St. Leonhard and the brightly-coloured concrete campanile) as well as Hauptplatz, Feldbach's spacious main square:
