Canazei (Italy), Saturday 16 September 2017 - cancelled!
The Sellaronda Trail Running is an incredibly-scenic ultra marathon race around the Gruppo del Sella, an awe-inspiring massif in the Dolomites in northern Italy.
You need to be a super-fit and experienced mountain runner if you want to tackle this highly-challenging run through spectacular scenery. The route is 61.5km long, and it includes 3,378m of ascent!
The race is run mainly on gravel roads and trails. Some portions are on asphalt roads.
Competitors run across four mountain passes and through four winter sports resorts (Canazei, Selva, Corvara, and Arabba), starting in Canazei, which is at an elevation of 1,440 metres.
There are ten feed stations spread along the course, but as the race takes place in a high-alpine environment (the highest aid station is at 2,464m above sea level) runners must carry some mandatory equipment with them, such as warm clothing, a survival blanket, a headlamp, etc.
Last year, 144 runners from eleven European countries completed the course. The winners were Georg Piazza (6:15:58) and Anna Pedevilla (7:20:12).
The time limit to finish the race is twelve hours. It is allowed to use trekking poles.
