Wien (Austria), Tuesday 26 September 2017
The Vienna Night Run is one of Central Europe's biggest 5k races.
Last year, over 15,000 runners and nordic walkers completed the 5km-long loop course around the Innere Stadt, Vienna's Old Town.
More than 54 per cent of the finishers were women. The fastest runners were Christian Steinhammer (14 minutes 11 seconds) and Lissi Niedereder (16 minutes 46 seconds).
The race follows the imperial Ringstraße which is home to a good many of Vienna's grandest buildings such as the Hofburg (Court Palace), the Austrian Parliament, the State Opera and the Burgtheater (pictured below).
The event is held in support of the charity Light for the World (Licht für die Welt) which uses the money to carry out cataract eye operations in Africa.
