Castions di Strada (Italy), Saturday 6 May 2017
The Cjasteons al Cjamine attracts several hundred runners and hikers to the village of Castions di Strada which sits on the vast Friulian Plain in the north-eastern part of Italy.
Participants can choose between three very flat routes, approximately 7km, 12km and 21km long. The routes are multi-terrain loops, mainly on gravel roads, with a bit of asphalt and trails.
As this is a non-competitive event without timekeeping, there's no point in racing hard or even trying to break any personal records.
Most participants take it as a training run (or walk) and enjoy the scenic course through agricultural areas, vineyards and woods — and the fine views of the Alps in the distance.
You can expect many feed stations and friendly helpers along the course, and hungry carnivorous finishers can order coniglio (rabbit) at the Sagre dal Cunin (Rabbit Festival) which will be held between 28 April and 7 May 2017 in the village.
