Gorizia (Italy), Sunday 5 March 2017
The Maratonina Transfrontaliera Città di Gorizia features a gently-undulating and traffic-free half marathon course through two countries, Italy and Slovenia.
The race begins and ends in the Italian town of Gorizia, a very pleasant and pretty border town of about 35,000 people.
Approximately 9.5 kilometres of the race are run on Slovenian soil (through the towns of Šempeter and Nova Gorica).
Entrants to the 21.1km maratonina must be registered with an athletics club that is an affiliated member of an athletics federation (for instance the FIDAL in Italy, AZS in Slovenia, ÖLV in Austria, DLV in Germany, UKA in the United Kingdom, ...).
The non-competitive 7km "Stracittadina" fun run, which starts off five minutes after the half marathon, is open to everyone.
Last year, the half marathon had 648 finishers. The winners were Tamás Kovács of Hungary (1:06:12) and Sonja Roman of Slovenia (1:15:52). The time limit to complete the course is 2 hours 30 minutes.
