With 66 finishers last year, the Gorski tek na Bevkov vrh is one of the smallest mountain running events in our runinternational Race Guide.
It is held in a remote and very beautiful region in the western part of Slovenia, in an area which you would probably hardly ever visit if it weren't for this race.
You will need a good map or a fully functioning GPS navigation system to find the start area in Gorenje Jazne, the upper part of the village of Jazne, situated at an elevation of about 685m in the Cerkljansko hribovje (Cerkno Hills).
But it will be well worth the effort. The 6km-long route runs through lovely scenery and offers marvellous panoramic views of the region.
It features 484m of ascent and 162m of descent (almost a quarter of the course is downhill).
The finish line is near the summit of Bevkov vrh (Bevk Peak, 1051m).
Last year, the fastest finisher was Tomaž Ferjančič (29 minutes 30 seconds). Marta Švigelj, the first woman, finished in 38 minutes 42 seconds (video).
Wait a bit after the race! The event forms part of the Sejem v Jaznah, the annual village festivities in Jazne.
At 4pm, after Mass in the village church, there will be live music with the folk group Bloški odmev (video) to make your summer day in rural Slovenia perfect.
