Augarten, Vienna, Austria - one of the avenues through the park (Copyright © 2017 Anja Zechner / runinternational.eu)

Provided that it's not too hot on the day of the race (temperatures can be rather high in Vienna at the end of August), the Augartenlauf offers a fine opportunity to clock a fast time over the 5km or the 10km distance — or over the 1,000 metres if you were born in 2004 or later.

The 2.5km-long race course through the Augarten, the oldest Baroque park in the city, is very flat and scenic.
