Held in the small Schilcher wine region in Austria's state of Steiermark (Styria), the Schilcherlauf is a popular and atmospheric road running event that attracts around 1,500 participants every year.

The start/finish area is on the little Hauptplatz of Stainz, a picturesque small town with a Baroque castle on top of a hill (pictured below).

Entrants can choose to run either one lap (5.25km), two laps (10.5km), three laps (15.75km) or four laps (21.1km half marathon) of a gently-undulating loop course. The route runs through the town and through farmland.
