Set in the Julian Alps in Slovenia, the Bovec Marathon offers three multi-terrain races: an 8km fun run, a 21.1km half marathon and a 42.2km marathon.

All routes are single loops through the strinkingly-beautiful Soška dolina (Soča Valley).

The start and the finish are on the main square of the small town of Bovec, a popular destination for skiers in the winter and for kayakers and hikers in the summer.

Situated at an elevation of about 460 metres in the Bovška kotlina (Bovec Basin), the town is surrounded by steep, densely-wooded mountains on all sides.

The routes are highly scenic and varied. They have not been designed to set any personal records. The 8km run features 50m of ascent, the half marathon 180m, and the full marathon 400m. Approximately one third of the marathon course is on gravel roads or trails.

You are well advised to register early if you want to take part in either the half or the full marathon. The entry limit for the two races combined is 1,000 runners, and entries fill up quickly.
