Held in the Province of Udine in the Friuli region in the north-eastern corner of Italy, the Maratonina Città di Udine is one of the top half marathon races in Europe.

The course records are held by Kenya's world-class marathon runners Geoffrey Mutai (59 minutes 6 seconds) and Margaret Okayo (1 hour 7 minutes 23 seconds).

More than 1,600 runners took part in the half marathon last year.

In 2016, the race will be held on a new point-to-point course which will begin in the picturesque medieval town of Cividale del Friuli:

The finish line will be, like before, on the graceful Piazza Libertà in the historic centre of the city of Udine:

The new course may not be as flat as as the former loop course but fast finishing times seem to be possible as there are hardly any twists and turns on the course.

In addtition to the half marathon, the event offers a 7.5km fun run (Straudine), children's races and a 900m run for runners with dogs.
