7th Lake Velence Supermarathon 2016
Velence (Hungary), Sunday 4 September 2016
Participants in the Velencei-tó Szupermaraton in Hungary run either one lap (30km) or two laps (60km) around the stunningly-beautiful Velencei-tó (Lake Velence) which is situated about halfway between Budapest and Lake Balaton.
The race is run on roads, cycleways and pavements. The route is flat along the southern shore and undulating north of the lake.
Velencei-tó is 11km long, up to 3.5km wide and very shallow. Approximately one third of the lake is covered with reed, and at the western end there's a protected bird reserve. As the water warms up quickly in the summer, it's a popular place for swimming and water sports.
