The Marcia Internazionale delle Castagne ("International Chestnut Walk") takes place in the village of Magnano in Riviera which is situated at the foot of the Julian Prealps in the Province of Udine in the north-east of Italy.
A marcia is not a race. It's a non-competitive event without timekeeping or results lists, so it doesn't matter if you run or jog or walk.
This marcia offers four routes: 4km, 7km, 13km and 25km. Participants can still decide on the course which distance they want to run (or walk).
All routes are very scenic. The longer routes are also very challenging as they run on mixed terrain (asphalt, gravel and trails) up and down the densely-wooded alpine foothills.
The event forms part of the Festa Sapori di Castagne e Noci, a chestnut and walnut festival where delicious specialities are available at very reasonable prices:
