Valbruna (UD), Italy, Sunday 2 October 2016
The first Marcia 4 Passi in Val Saisera is expected to attract at least a couple of hundred runners and hikers to the Val Saisera, a steep valley in the Julian Alps, situated near the ski resort of Tarvisio in the north-eastern corner of Italy.
The event is not a race. It's a marcia non competitiva, a non-competitive run and walk without timekeeping or results list, so you can take your time to enjoy the beautiful course and awe-inspiring vistas.
Registration begins at 8am. You can start off at any time between 9am and 10.30am, and you can then decide which distance you want to run — 7.3km, 13km or 21.7km.
All three routes are a mix of trails and roads, starting at the P1 car park, which is at an elevation of about 840 metres above sea level, approximately 1km up the road from the village of Valbruna.
One hundred years ago at the frontline between Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops, the Val Saisera is now a tranquil unspoiled place and a superb destination for hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter.
