Velden am Wörthersee (Austria), Saturday 1 October 2016

Held in the Ossiacher Tauern hill range in Austria's state of Kärnten (Carinthia), this uphill road race takes you vom See zum Berg — "from the lake to the mountain".

The route is 9.2km long. It includes 518m of ascent, so it's not too difficult a route. For the time of the race, the course is closed to all traffic.

Starting at the casino in the resort of Velden at the western end of the Wörthersee, the race is run on asphalt roads through lovely countryside and three pretty villages: Kranzlhofen, Oberjeserz and Köstenberg.

The finish line is at an elevation of 922m at the Alpengasthof Obersakoparnig.

From there, you'll walk 1.5km back to the event centre in Köstenberg where you can pick up your clothing and take a shower.

Last year, 103 runners completed the course. The fastest finishers were Silvio Wieltschnig (36min 44sec) and Michaela Zwerger (47min 11 sec).
