Ljubljana (Slovenia), Sunday 30 October 2016
Held in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana, one of Europe's smaller capital cities with just about 280,000 inhabitants, the Ljubljanski maraton is a massive running event with more than 16,000 participants in three races:
Race distance |
Start time |
Number of participants 2015 |
10km | 8.30 |
ca. 6,500 (41% men / 59% women) |
21.1km | 10.30 | ca. 8,000 (61% men / 39% women) |
42.2km | 10.30 | ca. 2,200 (81% men / 19% women) |
All three race courses are single-loop routes that begin and end in the city centre.
The 10k takes the runners to the northern part of Ljubljana. Participants in the half marathon run through the northern and western portions of the city. The marathon route runs north, then west, then south, and finally east.
The marathon and the half marathon routes split shortly before the 21km mark, so you can expect more than 10,000 runners to be on the streets on the first part of the marathon course.
