The second edition of the Maratonul International Brașov will be held on 29 May 2016 (two weeks earlier than last year) in the city of Brașov, which is also known as Kronstadt by Germans and as Brassó by Hungarians.

Situated at the foot of the Carpathians in the Transylvania region, Brașov is Romania's seventh-largest city with a population of more than 250,000 people.

The quarter marathon is a 10.55km-long loop that runs through the city centre and along the wide Calea București boulevard to the south-eastern edge of the city.

From there, half and full marathoners run out and back through fields and open grassland. The turning point of the 42.2km marathon is in the village of Cărpiniș.

The route is gently undulating. From start to finish, the half marathon features 110 metres of ascent, the full marathon 170 metres.

The time limit to complete the course is 45 minutes for the 5k, 90 minutes for the quarter marathon, three hours for the half, and six hours for the full marathon.

All registration fees for the 5k run (and 15% of the fees for the other races) will be donated to a charity that supports children with autism.

Last year, Vitalie Gheorghiță of Moldova won the first Brasov International Marathon in a very fine time of 2:26:44. Iulia Găinariu was the fastest woman in 3:01:39.
