Gonars (Italy), Sunday 13 March 2016
The Cjaminade fra Amis is a hugely popular non-competitive amateur sports event, held in the village of Gonars in the Friuli area in the north-east of Italy.
About 2,300 runners and walkers took part in the 36th Cjaminade in 2015.
The event offers four very flat routes — 6km, 12km, 21km and 30km long.
Participants run (or walk) on mixed terrain through farmland, vineyards and villages on the vast Bassa Friulana Plain.
Along the course there are many aid stations, some of them offering local delicacies like wine and musetto (a type of spiced pork sausage), and after the run more food and drinks are available at very reasonable prices.
The entry fees are very low (€3) and even lower (€2.50) if you are registered with the FIASP (Federazione Italiana Amatori Sport Per tutti) sports association.
