Held every year on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter, the Paderborner Osterlauf (‘Paderborn Easter Run’) is Germany's oldest road running event.

With more than 7,600 finishers in three races (5k, 10k, half marathon), and many elite runners at the front of the field, it is also one of the most prestigious spring running events in the country.

The Osterlauf also offers children's races, a 5k for walkers and nordic walkers, a 10k for handcyclists, and a half marathon for inline skaters.

Participants in the half marathon run two laps of an IAAF/AIMS-certified course through the northern part of Paderborn, an old university city of about 145,000 people in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In 2015, the half marathon winners were Kenya's Abraham Yano (1hr 1min 4sec) and Maryanne Wangari Wanjiru (1hr 11min 10sec). The time limit to complete the course is 2hr 45min.
