Brčko (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Saturday 25 June 2016
The Vidovdanska trka (Vidovdan Road Race) is a top-class 10k race that has drawn a large number of elite athletes from all over the world to the town of Brčko, a multi-ethnic university town of about 43,000 people in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The race is a single loop that takes the runners through the town centre, to the River Sava (which forms the border with Croatia), and through residential and green areas.
Last year, Birech Cosmas of Kenya won the race in a very fine time of 28min 50sec. His compatriot Angela Tanui was the first lady across the line (32min 47sec).
The course records are held by Gordon Mugi Mahagu of Kenya (28min 11sec) and Serbia's four-time Olympic runner Olivera Jevtić (32min 4sec).
But you don't need to be a top runner to take part in the event! Runners of all abilities are welcome. The time limit to complete the course is 90 minutes.
In addition to the 10k race, the event also offers a 2k fun run and a number of children's races which are hugely popular with the kids.
The Vidovdanska trka is held every year around Vidovdan, the feast day of Saint Vitus, celebrated by the Serbian Orthodox Church on 28 June.
