Held in Würzburg, a 1,300-year-old city in the Franconia region in Bavaria, Germany, the Würzburg Marathon comprises a 10km run (one lap), a half marathon (one lap), and a marathon (two laps).

In 2015, the three races combined had 2,300 finishers.

The route is certified and gently undulating. The difference between the lowest and the highest point on the course is approximately 15 metres.

Along the route there are many outstanding sights, for instance the Würzburg Residence which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (pictured above), or the Old Main Bridge which connects the Old Town with the Marienberg Fortress (pictured below).

The time limit to finish the 42.2km marathon is 5 hours 30 minutes. Participants have the option to finish the race after the first lap if they prefer to get an official half marathon result.
