Faak am See (Austria), Sunday 10 July 2016
The Faakerseelauf offers two races—a 10.55km quarter marathon (Panoramalauf) and a 21.1km half marathon (Halbmarathon).
The route is a very scenic, varied and rather challenging 10.55km-long loop around the Faaker See, a popular holiday destination in the state of Kärnten in the southern part of Austria, near the borders with Slovenia and Italy.
For the most part, the race is run on asphalt roads through some lovely scenery and pretty villages. Approximately one kilometre of the route is on forest trails.
There are a number of testing ascents as well. Overall, the quarter marathon features about 85 metres of elevation gain, the half marathon 170 metres!
For the time of the race, the course is closed to all traffic.
Last year, Jan Adriaensen of Belgium (34:46) and Cristina Rosca of Italy (40:57) led an international crowd of almost 600 Panoramalauf runners across the finish line.
Around 270 runners took part in the Halbmarathon. The winners were Martin Pogelschek of Austria (1:19:45) and Italy's Simona Rizzato (1:32:06).
