This Mitternachtslauf (‘Midnight Run’) draws runners from all over Germany and beyond to the small town of Heiligenhafen, a popular summer holiday destination on the Baltic Sea coast in Germany's northernmost state of Schleswig-Holstein.

The route is 10km long. The first half of the course is undulating, the second half is mostly flat.

Starting and finishing on Heiligenhafen's athletics track, the race takes the runners through the historic town centre, through residential areas, past the marina, along the beach promenade and around the Binnensee lagoon.

Last year, Dennis Mehlfeld (32min 46sec) and Gesa Bohn (35min 56sec) led a field of 741 athletes across the finish line.
