Trnava (Slovakia), Friday 1 January 2016
The Slovak running season 2016 begins with the Trnavský novoročný beh, which is held annually on New Year's Day in the town of Trnava.
Situated approximately 50 kilometres from Slovakia's capital Bratislava, Trnava is well worth a visit for its charming historic town centre with its many fine churches.
The event offers a 1.5km run for children and a 6km race for men and women.
Starting at 2pm on Trojičné námestie (Trinity Square), the main square, participants in the 6km race run four laps of a 1.5km-long course through the Old Town.
The New Year's Run is the second race of the Trnavská bežecká trilógia race series. The first race (Zimný beh zdravia) is held annually on 26 December. The third and last race (Trojkráľová šestka) takes place on 6 January.
