The Johannesbad Thermen-Marathon is held at one of the largest thermal spas in Europe, the Johannesbad in the village of Bad Füssing, which is situated in a low-lying area in Germany's state of Bavaria, near the border with Austria.
In 2015, the event had almost 1,800 finishers.
Three races are on offer:
Participants in the 10km race run one loop around the village of Egglfing with its onion-domed church (pictured).
The half marathon consists of two different loops — the 10km loop around Egglfing and an 11.1km loop around Bad Füssing.
The marathon is two laps of the half marathon course. The time limit to finish the race is five hours.
The course is predominantly flat on roads and cycleways, for the most part through farmland.
Free access to the thermal pools of the Johannesbad is included in the entry fees, as well as an all-you-can-eat pasta party on the eve of the race.
