The Rajecký maratón in Slovakia offers a full marathon (42.2km), a half marathon (21.1km), an inline skating race (22.1km) and two children's races (400m, 2km).

All races begin and end on the main square of Rajec, a small town of about 6,000 people, situated in the Rajčanka river valley in the north-western part of the country.

Both the half and the full marathon begin with a 2km loop through Rajec.

Then, the route runs out and back on a country road along the valley into the wooded Strážovské vrchy mountains.

The first half of the race is uphill (+100m of ascent in the half marathon, +200m in the full marathon), and the second half is downhill. The turning point for marathon runners is in the village of Čičmany which is well known for its beautiful folk architecture (pictured above).

The course is open to traffic during the event.

Last year, 185 runners finished the full marathon and 487 runners the half. The inline skating race had 116 finishers.
