Hamburg (Germany), Sunday 3 April 2016
The Wilhelmsburger Insellauf ("Wilhelmsburg Island Run") takes runners on a tour of Wilhelmsburg, a quarter of the city of Hamburg, situated on an island in the mighty River Elbe.
Four race distances are on offer — a 1.2km run for children, a 5km race, a 10.55km quarter marathon and a 21.1km half marathon.
The routes are accurately measured and certified.
The 5k is an out-and-back run through residential areas to a 19th-century windmill.
Participants in the longer races also run through very pretty rural areas and along the dikes of the River Elbe.
More than 2,100 runners, walkers and nordic walkers took part in the event last year.
