Held in the Ossiacher Tauern hill range in Austria's state of Kärnten (Carinthia), the Tauernberglauf takes runners vom See zum Berg — from the lake to the mountain.
The 9.2km-long route features 518m of ascent.
Starting at the casino in the resort of Velden at the western end of the Wörthersee, the race is run on asphalt roads through lovely countryside and pretty alpine villages.
The finish line is at an elevation of 922m at the ‘Alpengasthof Obersakoparnig’.
From there, finishers walk 1.5km back to the event centre in the village of Köstenberg. In the afternoon, shuttle buses take the runners back to Velden.
